Dad has always had a "thing" for the R.M.S Titanic, and since she sailed from Southampton, he wanted to see anything he could connected to the ship. So, we looked on line and discovered there was a memorial to the ship's Engineer Officers who died keeping the ship powered so the radio operators could continue to send out the CQD, later known as SOS.
At the base of the memorial are bouquets of Poppies, which Dad said is used as a flower of remembrance for the fallen soldiers of the Great War, or World War I. It is a beautiful memorial, but it's sad to think about all those people who died in the war.
We explored more than park however, we also explored the medieval wall that used to protect Southampton, and wandered through the street vendors too. The old walls were amazing. They are so huge! I can't imagine trying to fight on them. And it's so cool that some of them are still here more than 400 years after they were built!
(My brother Nate, me, and my Aussie cousin Malcolm on one the towers of the medieval wall that used to protect Southampton. This tower also protected the city during World War II during the Battle of Britain when there was an anti-aircraft battery mounted on it to defend against German bombers.)
